Charles Scott Guenther (Charlie) was born today at 4:37am, weighing 1lb 3oz, and almost four and a half months early!!! Charlie’s birth has been so special for us for so many reasons. Not only was he born at just 22 weeks and 1 day, he was also born in his amniotic sac, which is extremely rare. Charlie benefited greatly from this because he wasnt exposed to any bacteria from mom on the way out and he didn’t have to struggle to breathe quite as long. Due to being so premature, his lungs aren’t fully developed and he cannot breathe on his own. Before delivery, one of the doctors’ main concerns was getting the ventilator tube in because his airway is so small. The doctors took him immediately after birth and got him hooked up to a ventilator with no issues, and inserted 2 lines for blood and nutriton into his stomach .They even said he is a bit big for his gestational age and they expected him to be much smaller. The NICU staff said he is one of the youngest they have had, and they are impressed with how well he is doing. We thank God for every little detail about Charlies birth that has helped him in his fight. From being born in the sac, to his size, every piece has been perfectly and carefully designed. The doctors say the goal is for all babies in the NICU to stay until their due date before they are released, so Charlie will be there until the end of April. We know this is going to be a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but we are so excited to watch Charlie grow and can’t wait for everyone to meet him. We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support; we can really see God working in Charlie’s life.
